An American Engineering Company

It started with a simple idea: Build one of the finest engineering firms in the industry. We started by asking ourselves, "If we were to hire such a firm, what would we look for?"

History

Richmond Engineering Works (REW) began operations in May of 1996 with five (5) electrical engineers. Our first large project came in September of 1996 when we were contracted to design and build the control system for the coal yard of a new power plant in Indonesia. The scope included PLC based controls and HMI stations for more than thirty (30) conveyors, two (2) stacker reclaimers, and ancillary equipment.

In 2002, we added a mechanical engineer, our first mechanical project was the design and supply of a replacement drive system for a rotary car dumper in Wisconsin.

In 2009, we added our first structural engineer. In August of 2011, we received an order to design, supply, and manage installation of a replacement rotary car dumper in Oklahoma.

Since then, we have designed, supplied, provided installation oversight of many new machines including rotary car dumpers,  train positioners and stacker reclaimers. We have supplied spare parts for all bulk material handling machines, even those designed by other companies.

To date, we have Professional Engineers (P.E.’s) in all three disciplines...structural, mechanical and electrical. Our experience, hands on practical experience, work ethic and knowledge in the bulk handling industry sets us apart. We are available 24/7 to meet all your bulk material handing needs.

Our Business Philosophy

We are a privately held company that is in business for the long haul. We believe the best way to accomplish this is by providing high quality products and services in a timely manner, while treating our customers with integrity and respect. Our commitment to customer service is simple...customer satisfaction.

Providing innovative design, skilled workmanship and a quality output while meeting all of our customers’ specifications is our GOAL, therefore, delivering increased machine life expectancy, efficiency and overall safety.

Industries Served

Experience

  • We design, supply and integrate machines that unload and load bulk materials such as:
  • Coal
  • Wood Chips
  • Taconite
  • Iron Ore
  • Grain
  • Other Bulk Solids
  • Fertilizer
  • Limestone
  • Rail car dumpers, continuous and clamshell type barge unloaders, stacker reclaimers, and ship loaders are examples of machines we have serviced.
  • We design equipment to load and unload barges, rail cars, ships, or trucks. Our machines also stack out and reclaim material from stockpiles.
  • Upgrades to existing machines are an essential part of our business.
  • Our engineers and field technicians are available to assist with routine inspections and emergency breakdowns.
  • Electrical and controls upgrades to entire terminals and plants are a common project for us at Richmond Engineering.
  • Steel, titanium and other metal processing lines.
  • We can provide electrical and mechanical upgrades to draw bridges, lift bridges, and swing bridges. The rotary car dumpers that we frequently design and service are essentially bridges that roll over every two (2) to three (3) minutes.
  • Electrical upgrades to titanium processing lines.
  • Design and supply a hydraulically driven trash rake to clean the water intakes at a power plant.
  • Control upgrades to power plant ancillary systems such as ash transport, water treatment, and others.
  • Designed, supplied, and subcontracted installation of a twenty-four foot (24') diameter bearing that supports over one million pounds.
  • Antique electrical controls, we have engineers who know what wound rotor motors and Amplidynes are; we can help maintain an existing system or design a replacement.
  •

Our Customers Include:

  • Mines that load out coal and other materials.
  • Power plants that receive and store coal by train, barge, or ship.
  • Ports and terminals that receive, store, and load out bulk materials.
  • Steel, titanium and other metal producers.
