Richmond Engineering is currently hiring the following positions at our Pittsburgh, PA, office:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Drafter / Designer to join our growing team.  This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning concepts into technical drawings and 3D models while collaborating with engineers, designers, and project managers on creative, large-scale projects.

The successful candidate will assist in the development of 3D models and fabrication drawings while gaining hands-on experience throughout the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and modify 3D models using industry-standard modeling software.
  • Produce detailed fabrication and assembly drawings from design concepts.
  • Develop accurate shop drawings, layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Revise drawings and models based on engineering and project team feedback.
  • Support project coordination by maintaining organized drawing files and revisions.
  • Participate in occasional fabrication shop inspections to verify drawing accuracy and design intent.
  • Gain hands-on field experience by visiting project sites to understand real-world applications of designs and gather field measurements to support accurate modeling and drawing development.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and other designers as part of a team.
  • Assist in solving design and production challenges during project development.
  • Follow drafting standards, company procedures, and quality control practices.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or Related Discipline.
  • Basic experience with 3D modeling and drafting software (such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced creative environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude or fabrication knowledge is a plus.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing engineering team.  This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging and innovative projects within the material handling industry, supporting the design and delivery of complex industrial systems and structures.  The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities to guide project execution, mentor junior engineers, and ensure high-quality engineering deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead structural engineering efforts for material handling projects from concept through final design and construction support.
  • Perform structural analysis and design utilizing applicable codes, industry standards, and client specifications.
  • Develop and review structural models and analyses using RISA-3D and other engineering software tools.
  • Utilize 3-D modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance and optimize designs.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, fabrication drawings, and detail drawings for accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
  • Manage project schedules, engineering deliverables, and coordination with              multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Mentor and supervise a team of structural engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and professional development support.
  • Participate in internal and client design reviews and provide technical recommendations.
  • Support field activities including site visits, inspections, reverse engineering efforts, and shop inspections.
  • Travel to customer sites for project kickoffs, field evaluations, and occasional inspections (less than 10% travel).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably within industrial or material handling environments.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel design, connection design, and applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with RISA-3D for structural modeling and analysis.
  • Experience with 3-D modeling platforms and finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication and construction practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
